Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter and Love Sick Eyeshadow Stacks Review

Today I’ve got the Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter and Love Sick Eyeshadow Stacks Review to share with you. Last Friday they went on sale and the moment they were live I bought them because I had to have them. They were $48 each and shipping was $7.

Within 40 minutes of placing my order I received a shipping  notification. My eyeshadows arrived on Monday. I was very impressed with how quickly they arrived.

Sadly, I was sick Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but finally was able to play with them Wednesday night.

Melt Cosmetics is cruelty free. Half of the eyeshadows are vegan.

These eyeshadows are .125 oz per shadow and they break down to $12 each. A typical eyeshadow is .05 oz and can range from anywhere from $18-21. Sugarpill eyeshadows are .12 oz each and $12 each. These are slightly larger than Sugarpill eyeshadows.

The packaging is innovative and awesome. Each stack comes with a  mirror and 4 eyeshadows. The packaging is magnetic. I really it. Yes, I’m easily amused.

All eyeshadows swatched on Coastal Scents Step One primer.

Love Sick Eyeshadow Stack.

PROMISCUOUSa beautiful color changing violet-blue! Use it alone, or combine it with black to reveal a completely different shade! (vegan)

My Take

purple with blue-violet shift shimmer. When layered over black it turns into a grape shade. This was semi-sheer and had to be built up.

FIXATEDa gorgeous matte grey inspired by one of our favorite lipsticks, Space Cake, so pigmented and cool you have to see to believe (vegan)

My Take

gorgeous grey matte with teal blue undertones. This didn’t want to apply easily but it blended ok. It had good pigmentation.

AMELIEa perfectly peachy gold, you’ll want to add it all over Cheeks! Highlight! Eyes! It glistens and glides on with ease (vegan)

My Take

beautiful peachy gold shimmer. This one had amazing pigmentation and was easy to apply.

LOVE SICKa beautiful ultra-matte burgundy-red …inspired by our most popular lipstick 6six6! (not vegan)

My Take

perfect shade of burgundy red. This one didn’t want to apply easily but was pigmented and blended out ok.

Dark Matter Eyeshadow Stack

BLURRa soft beautiful blending/eraser shadow (not vegan)

My Take

a light peachy tan matte. This applied easily and blended out easily.

UNSEENa cool-medium delicious caramel brown (not vegan)

My Take

midtone caramel brown matte. This one kicked up a  lot of powder when swatched but not when applied. It applied easily and blended out easily.

ENIGMAa beautiful rusted red-brown (not vegan)

My Take

reddish brown matte. not my favorite. probably a good Pantone Marsala shade. This one chipped during shipping and then chipped more when swatched. It applied easily and blended out easily.

DARK MATTERthe most pigmented pitch-black (vegan)

My Take

ultra smooth and pigmented black matte. Perfect pigmentation, applied easily and blended out easily.

For this look I used Blurr as a base shade. I applied Fixated to the outer lid. I used Dark Matter along the outer lower lid.

I applied Promiscuous on the center of the lid and layered it on top of Dark Matter on the lower lid. I used Amelie at the inner lid.

I used Unseen in the crease and blended it out with Blurr and later used my foundation to lighten the edges even more. I highlighted with Notoriously Morbid Osteomancy.

I really wish that one full stack had been 100% vegan. Instead, the Love Sick stack is 75% vegan and the Dark Matter is 25% vegan. I’m very surprised that I the Dark Matter stack better than the Love Sick stack. I think that’s because the Dark Matter was easier to work with. Though I do love the colors in the Love Sick stack.

If you’re trying to decide between Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter and Love Sick Eyeshadow Stacks, of the two I recommend the Dark Matter over the Love Sick. All the shades in Dark Matter applied easier than Love Sick. The Love Sick Stack is certainly workable, but 3 of the 4 shades had issues.

What do you think of these two eyeshadow stacks?

Love Sick

Melt Cosmetics Love Sick Eyeshadow Stack (x4) ($48.00 for 0.36 oz.) contains a medium purple, faded teal, shimmery coral, and a deep red. Three of the four shades had room for improvement, while one was quite nice; the overall color combination was interesting and cohesive, which made the quality a bit of a disappointment!

  • MAC Paradisco (P, $17.00) is cooler (95% similar).
  • Make Up For Ever M847 Burgundy (P, $17.00) is brighter (95% similar).
  • Urban Decay Scene (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar).

Promiscuous

Promiscuous is a bright, medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and cooler, violet pearl. The texture was smooth to the touch but very silicone-heavy, so the slip made it harder to apply the eyeshadow evenly, especially when blending it out. It was better applied pressed and patted on with minimal spreading/blending. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

  • Too Faced Wham Bam (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar).
  • Fyrinnae Snowboarding (P, $6.75) is more shimmery (90% similar).

  • Too Faced That's My Jam (PiP, $16.00) is cooler (85% similar).

Fixated

Fixated is a deep, dusty teal with subtle, bluish undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage that was buildable to medium coverage without a primer; with primer, it was more buildable to semi-opaque. The consistency was soft but rather powdery. On me, it lasted for seven hours before fading noticeably.

  • Viseart Cool Mattes 2 #11 (PiP, ) is brighter (90% similar).
  • YSL Fetiche #5 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar).

Amelie

Amelie is a soft coral with warm, golden shimmer over a pinker base for a more frosted sheen.

It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a smooth, very creamy texture that had noticeable slip, which I felt contributed to it being less-pigmented than one would expect (the texture just felt so nice to the touch!) and made it a bit harder to blend without it becoming uneven in places. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

  • MAC Paradisco (P, $17.00) is cooler (95% similar).

Melt Cosmetcs Love Sick Review + Swatches

Изучаем: тени Love Sick Stack, Melt

Last year Melt Cosmetics released their line of bold lipsticks, which took the indie makeup world on Instagram by storm.

The successful collection of 14 striking lip shades appears to be a hit (you can read my review of them here), since some colors are always sold out on their website.

After entering the industry with such memento, I wasn’t surprised to see Melt Cosmetics expand their line to include two collections of eyeshadows: Dark Matter and Love Sick.

Melt Cosmetics Love Sick Review

The Melt Cosmetics Lovesick collection ($48) instantly caught my attention because I love the combination of the four striking and unique shades that it includes.

These colors are far from average and have been fine tuned by co-founder and makeup expert, Lora Arellano.

Each individual shade makes a statement on its own, but can also work in harmony together with the other colors included in the set.

Brownie points: The Melt Cosmetics eyeshadows are all cruelty-free and paraben-free. The Love Sick collection is almost completely vegan, with the exception of the color Love Sick.

The Melt Love Sick eyeshadow collection consist of 4 gorgeous shadows:

Love Sick-
Ultra-matte burgundy-red eyeshadow that was inspired by their most popular lip color, 6six6.

Seriously… this color gives me life! I never thought that I would love a reddish eyeshadow so much, but this color works with a variety of makeup looks. Just Promiscuous, the color is pigmented and velvety smooth.

I love to use it to create intense grungy looks, but it also works incredibly well for a natural smokey eye.

Amelie-Frosted peachy gold eyeshadow that can double as a highlighter. I personally prefer to wear it as a highlighter rather than an eyeshadow, since the iridescent particles are finely milled (which is a good thing!). If you do wear this color as a shadow, a great primer is essential and a stiff brush that allows you to pack on the color.

Fixated-Matte smokey grey eyeshadow with a blue undertone, which is inspired by their popular lip color Space Cake. This color is a bit powdery, but I would still say it applies fairly well. It’s very buildable and can be layered on to create the intensity you desire. It’s also a great color to blend out a black cut-crease with.

Promiscuous- A violet-blue metallic shade that shifts colors depending on the base that it’s applied to. This is one of my favorite colors from the stack because of its chameleon abilities and its velvety smooth application. It looks incredible when layered over black eyeliner and worn as a powerful pop of color liner.

Melt Cosmetics Love Sick Swatches

One thing is for sure; this palette of colors was carefully crafted with quality and quantity in mind. All of the colors are very pigmented and when used with a primer the shadows will stay put all day.

I’ve heard of a lot of people that feel that the shadows are overpriced (the price breaks down to $12 a shade), but I couldn’t disagree more. First of all, the shadow pans are much larger than traditional pans, weighing in at 3.57g (comparable to Sugarpill eyeshadows).

That’s more than double the size of a MAC shadow pan, which only weighs in at 1.5g each. Not only are these massive compared to MAC or similar brands, but also the quality is exceptionally greater in my opinion.

Now, let’s talk about something that has caught everyone’s attention since the first peak on Instagram: the packaging.

These eyeshadow are packaged in a simple black box, with calligraphy print lettering. This is also the design on the mailing box, which I love! The shadows come in a cutting-edge magnetic stacking system, complete with a mirror inside.

This is actually what I was intrigued about when I first saw the eyeshadows, since I’ve never seen this packaging concept before . The design of the stack makes them easy to travel with, since you can chose to only take the colors that you need with you.

But beware; it’s easy to chip your shadows with your nails when you are taking apart the stack.

Overall, I have to say that I’m pleased with the Melt Cosmetics Love Sick shadows. I’ve been experimenting with the colors and put together a look to share with you!
